COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Mechatronics and Intelligent Machines degree offers students a comprehensive understanding of the integration of mechanical, electrical, and digital systems, preparing them for careers in advanced engineering and automation. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in engineering through modules such as Digital and Programmable Systems, Design and Sustainability, Engineering Analysis, Engineering Practice, Fundamentals of Engineering Science, and Mechanical Engineering Science. These modules introduce core principles in mechanics, electronics, programming, and system design, while developing analytical, problem-solving, and practical engineering skills. The second year progresses into applied engineering concepts with modules like Digital Systems, Applied Instrumentation and Control, Design and Manufacture, Thermo-fluids, and Computer Aided Design and Simulation, allowing students to develop expertise in designing, controlling, and simulating complex mechatronic systems. Optional modules such as Robotic Systems and Operations Management provide additional opportunities to tailor learning to specific interests. In the final year, students focus on advanced integration and real-world application with modules including Mechatronics, Electromechanical Systems, Maintenance Management, and a Project, complemented by optional modules in Robotics and Applied Artificial Intelligence, Programmable Logic Controllers, Advanced Engineering Portfolio, and Engineering Simulation. Graduates emerge with practical and theoretical skills in intelligent machine design, automation, and system innovation, ready for roles in robotics, manufacturing, aerospace, and emerging technology sectors.
