COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Fire Engineering course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of fire science, engineering principles, and safety management, preparing them for careers in fire prevention, protection, and risk assessment. In the first year, students are introduced to combustion and fire behavior, safety and fire law, energy transfer and thermodynamics, engineering design practice, building materials, engineering analysis, and essential scientific and technical skills. This foundation equips them with the knowledge needed to understand fire dynamics and its interaction with built environments. The second year builds on these fundamentals with modules in fluid dynamics of fires, fire and the built environment, accidents and catastrophes, safety, health and environment, project management, computational engineering, and advanced engineering analysis, enabling students to apply theoretical principles to real-world problems. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics including enclosure fire dynamics, fire protection engineering, fire investigation, and probabilistic risk analysis, alongside an engineering design project and a dissertation that encourages independent research and practical application. Throughout the program, students develop analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills, combining engineering knowledge with an understanding of fire safety regulations and risk management. Graduates are prepared to design, evaluate, and implement innovative fire engineering solutions across diverse professional and industrial contexts.
