COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering course is designed to provide students with a thorough grounding in both electrical and electronic engineering principles, combining theory, practical skills, and industry relevance. In Year 1, students study core modules including Digital and Programmable Systems, Electrical and Electronic Systems, Design and Sustainability, Engineering Analysis, Engineering Practice, and Fundamentals of Engineering Science, establishing a strong foundation in circuit theory, electronics, digital systems, and engineering problem-solving. Year 2 builds on this knowledge with modules such as Signals and Systems Analysis, Electronic Systems, Digital Systems, Power Systems and Energy Conversion, and a project module, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical tasks while developing skills in energy systems, signal processing, and project management. Optional modules in software development and data communications with IoT provide opportunities to explore emerging technologies. In Year 3, students consolidate their learning through advanced modules including Power Electronic Systems, Sustainable Energy Systems and Control, and the Engineering Project with Sustainability, enabling them to integrate sustainability considerations into engineering solutions. Additional optional modules such as Machine Intelligence, Computer-Aided Instrumentation, Microcontrollers and Real-Time Embedded Systems, and Imaging and Vision Systems allow for specialization in cutting-edge technologies. The course emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and professional skills, preparing graduates for careers in electrical and electronic engineering, research and development, or further study in specialised areas.
