COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Textile Design course combines creative practice, technical skill, and professional awareness to prepare students for a career in the textile and fashion industries. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through modules such as Creative Thinking, Critical Studies in Fashion and Textiles 1, Textile Innovations 1, and Drawing for Textiles, exploring key design principles, materials, and techniques while fostering imaginative and experimental approaches. The second year builds on these skills with modules including Critical Studies in Fashion and Textiles 2, Textile Innovations 2, Introduction to Pattern, Surface Design, and Experiencing the Workplace, allowing students to refine their design capabilities, develop pattern-making and surface decoration techniques, and gain practical insight into industry settings. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through the Honours Project, Critical Studies in Fashion and Textiles 3, Textile Innovations 3, and Professional Practice and Business Awareness, producing a substantial body of work that demonstrates creativity, technical expertise, and professional readiness. Throughout the program, emphasis is placed on experimentation, research, and critical reflection, encouraging students to develop a personal design identity while understanding the commercial, cultural, and technological context of textiles. Graduates emerge with the skills, knowledge, and portfolio required for careers in textile design, surface pattern design, fashion, interiors, or further study within creative industries.
