COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Sports Journalism course provides a comprehensive education in reporting, writing, and producing content across a wide range of sports media platforms. In the first year, students build foundational skills through modules such as Storytelling, Media Law and Regulation, Sports Reporting 1, and Digital Journalism, learning how to research, write, and present engaging sports stories while understanding legal and ethical frameworks. The second year develops these skills further with modules including The Professional Sports Journalist 2, Sports Desk 1, Ethics, Sport Magazine, and Match of the Day, providing practical experience in reporting, feature writing, multimedia production, and sports commentary, while exploring ethical considerations in journalism. In the final year, students focus on advanced professional practice through modules such as Sports Desk 2, Work Placement, and Sporting Issues, allowing them to apply their skills in real-world environments, gain industry experience, and develop a portfolio of professional work. Optional modules such as Podcasting, Digital Project, Documentary, and Ethics offer opportunities to specialise in areas like audio production, multimedia storytelling, and investigative journalism. Overall, the course equips graduates with the practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and professional experience necessary for careers in sports reporting, broadcasting, digital media, content creation, and journalism-related roles in the competitive sports industry.
