COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Sociology course offers a deep exploration of social structures, cultural influences, and human behaviour across different contexts. In the first year, modules such as The Past in the Present: History, Heritage, and Society, Youth Identity and Difference, Sociological Ways of Thinking, Media and Culture, and The Sociology of Health introduce key sociological concepts, theories, and debates. Optional modules like Humanities in Context, Reading Texts, and Writing for Professional Practice allow students to broaden their analytical and communication skills. The second year focuses on applying sociological theory to real-world issues through modules including Work Placement, Research Methods, Sociology and Education, Contemporary Thinkers, The Sociology of Religion, and Sociology of Social Movements, helping students connect academic learning with professional and societal contexts. In the final year, students undertake a Dissertation and study modules such as Sociology of Childhood and Migration, Mobilities and Immobilities, gaining expertise in independent research and global social issues. Optional modules like New Perspectives on Cybercrime, Policy Interpretations: Comparative Perspectives, Violent Times? Violence, Conflict and Culture, and Sexy Bodies: Sexuality and the Body offer specialized study areas.
