COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Social Work course provides a structured learning journey that combines theory, practice, and professional development to prepare students for careers in social work. In the first year, modules such as Social Justice in Practice: Context, Themes and Debates, Human Growth and Development, Law and Safeguarding, Preparation for Social Work Practice, and Communication and Interpersonal Skills introduce the foundations of social work values, ethics, and practice. These modules help students understand human behaviour, social inequalities, and the legal frameworks that guide professional intervention. The second year builds on this knowledge through modules including Working with Children, Young People and Families, Social Perspectives on Mental Health and Distress, Social Work Practice 1: Applying Theory, Methods and Research, and Working with Adults. This stage emphasizes the application of theory to real-life practice and develops students’ ability to support diverse groups across different life stages. In the final year, modules such as Research for Specialist Professional Practice, Relationship-Based Practice in Social Work, and Social Work Practice 2: Critical Application of Theory, Methods and Research focus on advanced professional skills, research, and critical reflection.
