COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Screenwriting with Film, Television and Radio course is designed to develop professional writers skilled in crafting scripts for a wide range of media. In the first year, students explore key storytelling and creative techniques through modules such as Film, Television and Media Culture, Introduction to Screenwriting, Writing Comedy, TV Serials and Soaps, Introduction to Radio Writing, and Screenwriting Stage 2. These modules provide a strong foundation in narrative structure, dialogue, genre, and writing for different platforms. In the second year, the focus shifts to refining storytelling skills and exploring various formats through modules like Story Design, Writing for Film, Comedy Writing, Writing Radio Drama, Writing for Video Games, and Adaptations, where students learn to develop engaging scripts and adapt existing works for new audiences. The final year emphasizes professional practice and independent work with modules such as The Writer’s Room, Starting the Feature, Screenwriting Major Project, and a Research Project. These capstone experiences enable students to collaborate, pitch ideas, and produce a substantial script portfolio showcasing their creative identity. By graduation, students are equipped with the practical skills, industry awareness, and storytelling expertise needed to pursue careers in screenwriting, media production, or creative content development.
