COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Physical Education and Sport degree provides a comprehensive understanding of the theory, practice, and social context of physical education and sport. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Foundations of Teaching and Learning in Physical Education, Physical Education, Sport and Society, Psychosocial Perspectives in Physical Education and Sport, and Human Movement for Physical Education and Sport. These modules develop core knowledge in human movement, social and psychological aspects of sport, and effective teaching methods. In the second year, the focus shifts to more applied learning and specialization, covering modules like Special Educational Needs and Disability in Physical Education and Sport, Healthy Active Lifestyles, Applied Teaching and Learning in Physical Education, and The Sociology of Physical Education and Sport. This year emphasizes inclusive practice, health promotion, and the sociocultural influences on sport and education. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through Project Development and Project Realisation, while Contemporary Teaching and Learning in Physical Education prepares them for professional practice. Optional modules, such as Outdoor Activity program Design and Power and Politics in Physical Education and Sport, allow students to explore their personal interests and develop additional expertise. Overall, the program equips graduates with the practical skills, pedagogical knowledge, and critical understanding needed for careers as physical education teachers, sports coaches, or youth development practitioners, enabling them to make a positive impact on individuals and communities through sport.
