COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Photography degree provides a comprehensive and practical learning experience that equips students with the technical skills, creative insight, and professional understanding necessary for a career in photography. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Experimental Practice, Photographic Production, Visualising Ideas, and Photography, Narrative and the Everyday, which focus on developing technical competence, creative experimentation, and the ability to communicate ideas visually. This early stage emphasizes hands-on practice alongside conceptual development, enabling students to explore photography as both an art form and a means of storytelling. In the second year, the curriculum broadens to include Critical Ideas: Exploring Creative Context, Industry Development, Critical Practices, and Open Practice, encouraging students to situate their work within wider creative and professional contexts. These modules develop critical thinking, an understanding of industry standards, and the ability to engage with contemporary photographic discourse. In the final year, students undertake advanced independent projects through Professional Directions, a Research Project, and Independent Practice, allowing them to consolidate technical mastery, explore personal creative interests, and prepare for professional careers.
