COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Journalism degree provides students with a structured, hands-on approach to developing the skills required for a successful career in the media industry. In the first year, students focus on the foundations of journalism, including news reporting, storytelling, and understanding media law and regulation, while developing essential newsroom skills. The second year builds on these fundamentals, with modules such as features journalism, reporting politics and society, ethics, and Newsday exercises, allowing students to practice real-time reporting and develop a deeper understanding of journalistic standards and professional responsibilities. Optional modules in later years offer opportunities to specialise in areas such as podcasting, digital projects, brand creation, documentary production, or research projects, providing a diverse skill set tailored to individual career goals. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through advanced Newsday practice, work placements, and practical projects, gaining invaluable industry experience and professional connections. The course combines theoretical knowledge, practical training, and ethical awareness to ensure students are prepared for the dynamic media landscape. Graduates leave with proficiency across multiple platforms, strong investigative and reporting skills, and the confidence to work in traditional journalism, digital media, public relations, or communications, fully equipped to navigate the evolving demands of a competitive, global media environment.
