COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Games Design course provides students with a comprehensive foundation in the creative and technical aspects of game development. In the first year, modules such as Introduction to Games Design, Game Structures, Creativity and Context for Games, and 3D Modelling and Digital Art for Games introduce students to the fundamentals of game mechanics, design principles, and visual creation. These modules build essential skills in concept development, artistic expression, and digital production. In the second year, the focus shifts to more advanced applications, with modules like Game Development, Heading into The Games Industry, Game Loops, and Realising Game Engine Potential. Students learn about the game production pipeline, interactive systems, and industry practices while developing functional prototypes using professional game engines. The third year allows students to apply their accumulated knowledge to independent and professional-level projects through the Games Proposal and Honours Project modules. These final modules encourage innovation, critical thinking, and professional presentation, preparing students to enter the gaming industry with a strong portfolio and practical experience. By the end of the course, graduates are equipped with the creative, technical, and entrepreneurial skills needed to pursue successful careers in game design, development, or digital media production.
