COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Fine Art course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of contemporary art practice while encouraging individual creativity and critical thinking. In the first year, students focus on developing essential skills through modules such as Studio Practice 1 - Methods and Materials and Studio Practice 2: Project Development, where they learn fundamental techniques, explore different media, and begin to develop their artistic voice. Complementing these practical skills, modules like Ideas and Images in Modern Art and an Arts and Media Elective introduce students to art theory, historical context, and contemporary debates, providing a strong conceptual foundation. In the second year, students expand their expertise through Image and Context, Experimental Studies, Investigating Contemporary Practice, and The Creative Practitioner, which emphasize research methods, experimentation with new media, interdisciplinary approaches, and professional development. This stage encourages students to critically evaluate their work and engage with contemporary artistic practices. The final year centers on independent study and professional presentation, with modules including Degree Project Research and Development, Fine Art Degree Show Project, and a Contextual Report. These projects allow students to realize their creative vision, develop a coherent body of work, and reflect critically on their practice. Graduates leave equipped with the technical, conceptual, and professional skills required for careers in visual arts, creative industries, or further postgraduate study.
