COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Filmmaking course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of film production, combining creative practice with theoretical knowledge to prepare graduates for the film and media industries. In the first year, students explore foundational aspects of film, television, and media culture while developing essential production skills. Modules focus on specialist production techniques, scriptwriting, treatments, and pitching, giving students the practical and creative tools to begin creating content. The second year builds on this foundation, allowing students to refine their technical abilities and develop professional and entrepreneurial skills. Advanced production modules, live briefs, and creative enterprise projects help students understand industry workflows, teamwork, and audience engagement while encouraging innovative approaches to storytelling. In the final year, students undertake specialist practice and independent projects, culminating in a dissertation and a major production project. These modules provide opportunities to apply creative, managerial, and technical knowledge to real-world scenarios, while optional projects allow students to focus on personal interests and career goals. Across the course, students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and project management skills alongside hands-on technical expertise. By the end of the program, graduates are equipped to pursue careers in filmmaking, directing, editing, production management, or other creative roles in the media sector.
