COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Education program offers a comprehensive exploration of educational theory, practice, and policy, preparing students for careers supporting children and young people in various educational contexts. In Year 1, students establish a strong foundation through modules such as Theory, Philosophy and Policy in Education, International Perspectives on Education, Education and Technology, Introduction to Education Studies, Education for Everyone?, and Observing Education in Action. These modules introduce students to the principles of learning, educational systems, inclusive practice, and the use of technology in education, while providing opportunities to observe and engage with educational environments. Year 2 builds on this foundation with modules including Sociology and Education, Models of Teaching and Learning, Experiential Learning in Educational Settings, Learners with SEND, Representations of Education in Literature, Film, Television and Social Media, and Academic Writing and Research in Education. Students develop a deeper understanding of diverse learning needs, teaching methods, and social and cultural influences on education, alongside research and analytical skills. In Year 3, modules such as Dissertation, The Professional Role and its Context, Policy and Practice in Educational Settings, and The Education of Vulnerable Young People allow students to consolidate knowledge, reflect critically, and apply theory to practice. Optional modules provide further opportunities for exploration and specialization. Graduates leave equipped with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience to pursue careers in teaching, educational support, youth work, or further study.
