COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Education with Humanities program offers students a broad understanding of educational theory, child development, and professional practice while integrating the study of a chosen humanities subject. In Year 1, students develop foundational knowledge through modules such as Introduction to Education Studies, Education for Everyone?, and Writing for Professional Practice, gaining insight into educational systems, inclusive learning, and the importance of clear, professional communication. Year 2 builds on this foundation with modules including Sociology and Education, Learners with SEND, and Academic Writing and Research in Education, allowing students to explore the social and developmental factors that influence learning, while developing essential research and analytical skills. These modules emphasize understanding diverse learning needs and applying pedagogical knowledge in practical contexts. In Year 3, students consolidate their learning through Policy and Practice in Educational Settings, The Education of Vulnerable Young People, and a Dissertation, focusing on real-world educational challenges, evidence-based practice, and critical reflection. Throughout the course, students gain experience in observing, supporting, and engaging with learners, enhancing professional skills such as planning, communication, and ethical decision-making. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in teaching, educational support, youth work, or further study, combining strong theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and an interdisciplinary perspective from the humanities, enabling them to make a positive impact in diverse educational environments.
