COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Education and Psychology program offers a detailed exploration of how psychological principles inform educational practice and human development. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Introduction to Education Studies, Education for Everyone?, Methods and Practice of Psychological Inquiry, Introduction to Developmental and Social Psychology, Introduction to Psychobiology and Cognition, and Being a Psychologist. These modules provide an understanding of educational systems, human development, cognition, and psychological research methods, helping students to think critically about learning and behaviour. Year 2 focuses on applying this knowledge in more specialised contexts with modules including Sociology and Education, Models of Teaching and Learning, Learners with SEND, Social and Developmental Psychology, and Cognitive and Physiological Psychology. Students gain insights into diverse learning needs, teaching strategies, and the interaction between social factors and cognitive development. Optional modules offer further opportunities for practical experience and research skill development. In Year 3, students consolidate their learning with advanced modules such as Dissertation, Policy and Practice in Educational Settings, The Education of Vulnerable Young People, Psychology in Education, and Advanced Developmental Psychopathology, focusing on applying theory to real-world educational challenges. The program develops skills in research, observation, intervention, and professional practice, preparing graduates for careers in education, educational support, child development, psychology-related roles, or further study, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application in diverse learning environments.
