COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Applied Community and Social Care Studies program provides a three-year, in-depth exploration of social care theory, practice, and leadership, preparing students for professional roles in community and social care settings. In the first year, students build a foundational understanding through modules such as Supporting Well-being and Development, Introduction to Sociology for Community Practice, Understanding Welfare Development, Politics and Policy for Practice, Introduction to Relational Practice, and Introduction to Community Practice. These courses introduce key concepts in welfare, community engagement, and relational practice, equipping students with essential knowledge and skills. The second year focuses on applied and analytical learning, with modules including Comparative Social Policy, Managing and Delivering Welfare, Developing Effective Relational Practice, Researching Social Inequality, Safeguarding for Community and Social Care Practitioners, and Applied Community Practice: Research and Development. Optional modules such as Crime in Society and Race, Racism and Ethnicity allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests. In the final year, students engage in advanced study and research through Critical Social Policy, Community Research Project, Dissertation, and Management Skills for Community Practice, with further optional modules exploring areas like mental health, social housing, and social theory. Throughout the program, students develop practical experience, research capabilities, leadership, and ethical decision-making skills, ensuring they graduate ready to make a positive impact in community and social care settings.
