COURSE CURRICULUM

The Forensic Osteology and Field Recovery Methods program offers an in-depth exploration of human skeletal analysis and recovery techniques, combining theoretical knowledge with extensive practical training. In the first year, students develop advanced understanding of human osteology and anatomy, gaining the skills to analyze skeletal remains in detail. Core modules cover the growth, disease, and taphonomy of the human skeleton, alongside contemporary forensic practice and the role of the expert witness, providing insight into how skeletal evidence informs legal and investigative processes. Practical skills are emphasized through modules on forensic osteology techniques and field recovery and excavation methods, where students learn to recover and document human remains accurately while adhering to ethical and professional standards. Research skills and advanced analytical methods are also integrated, equipping students with the tools to conduct rigorous forensic investigations and data interpretation. In the second year, students undertake a forensic science research project, allowing them to apply their knowledge to real-world or simulated forensic scenarios, develop independent research capabilities, and contribute original findings to the field. By the end of the program, graduates possess the expertise and confidence to pursue careers in forensic science, anthropology, archaeology, and related disciplines, capable of conducting both applied and research-based work in forensic osteology.
