COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biotechnology and Bioengineering program at Kent provides students with a comprehensive foundation in molecular and cellular biology, biotechnology techniques, and cutting-edge research methods. In the first year, students engage with modules such as Molecular Biology, Genome Editing and Sequencing, and Biotechnology in Action, which introduce both the theoretical concepts and practical applications of modern biotechnology. Alongside this, modules on Research, Ethics and Impact, and Advanced Research Skills in Biotechnology help students develop critical thinking, ethical awareness, and scientific inquiry skills, preparing them to conduct high-quality research. Students also explore the latest developments in the field through modules on Cutting Edge Research Developments in Biotechnology and Advanced Analytical and Emerging Technologies for Biotechnology and Bioengineering, ensuring they are exposed to the forefront of scientific innovation. In the second year, students undertake an independent Research Project, allowing them to apply the knowledge and skills gained in a practical, hands-on context. This project encourages problem-solving, data analysis, experimental design, and scientific communication, fostering the ability to address complex biotechnological challenges. By combining rigorous academic study with practical laboratory experience, the program equips students with the expertise, confidence, and transferable skills needed to pursue careers in biotechnology, biomedical research, pharmaceuticals, or further postgraduate study.
