COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Planning program offers a comprehensive and practice-focused curriculum that equips students with the theoretical knowledge and applied skills needed to address contemporary challenges in planning and resilience. Core modules introduce students to the development of planning and resilience theory, enabling them to critically engage with key ideas and debates shaping the field. Conservation principles are explored to highlight the importance of protecting heritage and balancing it with modern development needs. Modules on planning policy and practice, alongside global planning and resilience practice, provide insight into how planning frameworks operate at local, national, and international levels, preparing students to work across different contexts. The course also addresses resilience in cities, examining how urban areas can adapt to climate change, population growth, and socio-economic pressures. Students develop advanced research skills through the dedicated research methods module, designed to prepare them for both academic inquiry and applied professional work. The program culminates in either a dissertation or an industry-based project, allowing students to apply their learning to a substantial piece of independent research or practical engagement with real-world planning issues.
