COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in International Relations at Kent provides a comprehensive framework for understanding global politics, combining rigorous academic study with practical research skills. Compulsory modules cover the analysis of world politics, research design, and the completion of a dissertation, equipping students with the tools to critically assess international events and political systems. Optional modules allow for deep engagement with specialised areas, including advanced topics in politics and international relations, global perspectives on political resistance, international ethics and human rights, and regional studies such as Middle Eastern politics or sub-Saharan Africa. Students can also explore conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation, alongside methodological training in qualitative and quantitative research, preparing them to design and conduct robust investigations into complex political issues. Additional modules examine contemporary challenges, including security in a changing world, terrorism, and the politics of global environmental change. This combination of theoretical understanding, practical research experience, and exposure to real-world political issues develops critical thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to formulate evidence-based arguments.
