COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport and Exercise Science degree at Kent provides a comprehensive understanding of how physical activity, sport, and exercise impact the human body and performance, while equipping students with practical skills and professional expertise. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules in biomechanics, exercise physiology, sport and exercise psychology, nutrition, and research methods, developing key analytical and practical skills. The second year focuses on applied learning, with compulsory modules covering applied exercise physiology, biomechanics, psychology, and research design, alongside optional modules that allow students to explore performance analysis, applied nutrition, and the effects of life course variability on physical activity. Students are encouraged to engage with real-world applications, developing the ability to design and evaluate interventions for health, performance, and wellbeing. In the final year, students undertake a dissertation, consolidating research skills and applying scientific knowledge to practical problems. Optional modules in advanced biomechanics, sport psychology practice, applied performance analysis, strength and conditioning, and exercise for clinical populations allow further specialisation. Opportunities for industry placements provide practical experience and enhance employability. Throughout the course, students gain transferable skills in data collection, analysis, problem-solving, and communication, preparing them for careers in elite sport, healthcare, research, education, and public health.
