COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Forensic Science degree provides a structured pathway that combines core scientific knowledge with specialist forensic training, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for careers in criminal investigation and related fields. In the first year, students build strong foundations in chemistry through modules in inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry while being introduced to forensic science and ballistics. They also begin to develop practical laboratory expertise through dedicated forensic skills training. The second year advances this knowledge with modules in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and digital forensics, alongside specialist studies in forensic techniques, archaeology, ballistics, and trauma analysis. Practical training continues, reinforcing hands-on skills valued by employers. By the third year, students are equipped to tackle advanced areas such as trace evidence analysis, fires and explosions, and DNA analysis and interpretation, while also conducting an independent forensic science research project. A capstone module on contemporary forensic practice and expert witness training prepares students to apply their knowledge in professional contexts, with a focus on ethical and legal responsibilities. Combining rigorous scientific study with applied forensic methods, the program offers a unique balance of theory and practice, equipping graduates with analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills highly relevant to careers in forensic science, policing, and research.
