COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Economics program at Kent provides a rigorous and flexible curriculum designed to equip students with the analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills required to understand and address complex economic issues. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in microeconomics and macroeconomics, alongside mathematics for economics, statistics, data analysis, and strategic decision-making, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills highly valued by employers. The second year deepens this understanding through core modules in macroeconomics and microeconomics, as well as introductory econometrics, while optional modules allow students to explore topics such as mathematical economics, the historical origins of economic development, behavioural economics, and cutting-edge economic thinking. In the final year, students advance their quantitative skills through applied econometrics and have the opportunity to specialise in areas including financial economics, asset pricing, macroeconometrics, monetary economics, environmental economics and green finance, international economics, development economics, public economics, labour economics, and political economy. The program also includes an economics dissertation, enabling students to undertake independent research and apply their knowledge to real-world problems. Across all three years, the course balances theoretical study with practical application, fostering critical thinking, data analysis, and problem-solving abilities, preparing graduates for careers in finance, policy, research, consultancy, and other fields where strong economic reasoning and quantitative skills are essential.
