COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Economics and Finance program at Kent provides a comprehensive understanding of economic principles and financial systems, preparing students to analyse and address complex challenges in business, government, and society. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge in financial accounting, principles of finance, microeconomics and macroeconomics, mathematics for economics, and statistics, combining theoretical learning with practical skills highly valued by employers. The second year builds on this foundation with compulsory modules in financial markets and institutions, corporate finance, macroeconomics, microeconomics for finance and management, and fixed income securities, while optional modules allow students to explore mathematical economics, historical economic development, behavioural economics, and contemporary economic thinking. The final year focuses on advanced applications and specialisation, with compulsory modules covering topics in advanced macroeconomics, investments and portfolio management, and financial economics and asset pricing, while optional modules enable students to study areas such as sustainable finance, taxation, advanced management accounting, auditing, monetary economics, environmental economics, international economics, development economics, political economy, public economics, labour economics, and complete a research project in accounting and finance. Throughout the program, students develop strong analytical, quantitative, and decision-making skills, learning to interpret data, construct financial and economic models, and assess the impact of financial and policy decisions, equipping them for careers in finance, investment, policy, and consultancy.
