COURSE CURRICULUM

The Conservation and Wildlife Biology program at Kent offers students a detailed understanding of ecology, biodiversity, and the practical skills needed for conservation and environmental management. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules covering the diversity of life, biodiversity and conservation, the Anthropocene, principles of ecology and biogeography, environmental sustainability, and ecological survey methods, combining theoretical learning with practical field skills. The second year deepens this knowledge with compulsory modules in applied ecology and conservation, key issues in conservation science, geographical information systems, and practical data analysis and interpretation, while optional modules allow students to explore areas such as animal form and function, environmental policy, environment and development, plant biology, and social science field methods. In the final year, students undertake a research project and study contemporary issues in conservation and geography, while optional modules provide opportunities to specialise in tropical conservation science, climate change and conservation, saving endangered species, evolutionary ecology and conservation genetics, human-wildlife conflict, and sustainable agriculture. The program emphasises hands-on learning, fieldwork, and data analysis, equipping students with skills in ecological surveying, research design, GIS, and project management. Graduates leave prepared for careers in wildlife conservation, ecological research, environmental policy, habitat management, and related fields, with the practical expertise and theoretical understanding to make a meaningful impact on global conservation efforts.
