COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Computer Science program at Kent provides a comprehensive education in computing, combining theoretical foundations with practical, hands-on experience. In the first year, students develop core skills in programming, internet technologies, human-computer interaction, computing fundamentals, and computer systems, establishing the essential knowledge required for more advanced study. The second year builds on this foundation with compulsory modules in algorithms, database systems, web development, and software development, while optional modules such as fundamentals of artificial intelligence, cyber security, and functional programming allow students to tailor their learning to emerging technologies and in-demand skills. In the final year, students undertake a group project and a research project to apply their knowledge in practical and investigative contexts. A wide range of optional modules offers opportunities to specialise in areas including natural computation, blockchain, information security, software engineering, video games development, machine learning, cognitive robotics, eHealth, quantum computing, deep learning, natural language processing, and data mining, among others. Throughout the program, students gain analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills highly valued by employers, while also developing practical experience with real-world applications. Graduates leave prepared for careers in software development, AI, cyber security, data science, robotics, and other technology-driven industries, or for further study in advanced computing and research.
