COURSE CURRICULUM

The Chemistry program at Kent provides a comprehensive and structured approach to understanding the principles, reactions, and applications of chemical science. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation through modules in fundamentals of chemistry, organic and inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, environmental chemistry, and practical laboratory work, equipping them with essential knowledge and experimental skills. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced study in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, organic synthesis, organometallic and main group chemistry, quantum mechanics, and continued experimental practice, developing in-demand skills and tackling complex scientific questions. In the final year, students focus on specialised topics such as advanced analytical methods, materials chemistry, advanced organic synthesis, inorganic structure and reactivity, and computational chemistry, while undertaking a research project that allows them to apply their knowledge to real-world scientific challenges. Practical laboratory experience throughout the program ensures students develop strong experimental skills and problem-solving abilities valued by employers. The course also emphasizes the application of chemistry to societal and environmental challenges, preparing graduates to address issues such as sustainable materials, pharmaceuticals, and energy solutions.
