COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering degree at Kent provides a rigorous and applied program that combines core engineering principles with practical experience and industry-relevant skills. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules in mathematics for engineering, electronics, programming, engineering materials and design, mechanics of materials and structures, and a design and manufacturing project, fostering problem-solving, technical, and teamwork skills. The second year expands this knowledge with modules in mechatronics and measurements, fluid mechanics, dynamics of machines, advanced manufacturing technologies, vibrations and control, and an engineering team project, allowing students to apply theory to practical challenges and develop collaborative project management experience. In the final year, compulsory modules in robotics and AI, finite element analysis, thermodynamics and heat transfer, and an independent research project consolidate learning and offer opportunities for specialised study and hands-on experimentation. Optional modules, such as biomaterials and renewable energy technology, allow students to tailor their studies to emerging areas of engineering. Throughout the program, students gain exposure to professional tools, software, and practical techniques used in industry, while developing critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills. By integrating rigorous theoretical study with applied projects, the degree equips graduates to become innovative and adaptable mechanical engineers capable of addressing complex engineering challenges and contributing to technological advancement and industry innovation.
