The BA in Social Work at Kent provides a comprehensive and practical education designed to prepare students for professional practice. In the first year, students explore the context of social work, developing essential communication and interpersonal skills, understanding law, rights, and ethics, and examining theoretical perspectives and human development across the lifespan. This foundation equips students with the knowledge and abilities to engage effectively with diverse clients and communities. In the second year, learning shifts toward applied practice, with a 70-day placement complemented by a five-day teaching block. Students gain experience working with adults, families, and children while deepening their understanding of mental health and advanced intervention skills. This stage emphasizes the integration of theory with real-world practice, enabling students to respond to complex social care challenges. The third year focuses on critical reflection, research skills, and multi-agency social work practice, including a 100-day placement that consolidates students’ professional competencies.
