COURSE CURRICULUM

The Modern Languages BA at Kent combines language learning with cultural, social, and professional development, providing a highly flexible and personalised educational experience. In the first year, students build a foundation through modules such as Introduction to Cultural Analysis, Politics and Societies, Global Cultures of Business, and Languages Lab Projects, developing both linguistic skills and critical cultural awareness. The course allows students to refine existing knowledge or begin new languages in a supportive environment, with options including French, German, Spanish, Italian, Mandarin, Japanese, and Arabic. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of language, culture, and media through compulsory modules such as Cultures, Media and Technology, Language, Culture and Environment, and Culture and Heritage, alongside continued language study at various levels and the Modern Languages Cultural Project. The final year emphasises practical and professional applications, with modules including Language Teachers at Work, Intercultural Communication, and the Modern Languages Big Project, enabling students to demonstrate fluency, cultural insight, and analytical skills. Across all three years, the program develops transferable skills such as communication, critical thinking, and intercultural competence, preparing graduates to navigate global contexts effectively.
