COURSE CURRICULUM

The Media BA at Kent offers a comprehensive program that combines practical skills with critical understanding of media and culture, preparing students for careers in the creative and cultural industries. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through modules such as film and media practice, introduction to cultural and creative industries, promotional media, media, politics and identity, and media and meaning, gaining hands-on experience in content creation while exploring the broader societal impact of media. The second year builds on this foundation with compulsory modules in advanced making media, media and social change, and media, ethics and social justice, while optional modules allow students to specialise in areas such as screenwriting, documentary filmmaking, cinematography, podcasting, social media, gaming, sound, music, and film genre studies, enabling them to tailor their studies to personal interests and career goals. In the final year, students complete an independent industry project, consolidating their practical experience and professional skills, while optional modules such as arts internships, film and TV adaptation, film criticism, marketing and distribution, fandom studies, and media, gender and sexuality allow further exploration of specialised areas. Throughout the program, students develop creativity, technical expertise, and analytical thinking, gaining the practical and critical skills needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving media landscape and make a meaningful impact in the industry.
