COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Film program offers a dynamic mix of theory, history, and hands-on practice across three years, equipping students with both creative and analytical skills. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules in film theory, histories, style, editing, and media practice, gaining technical knowledge and practical experience from the outset. The second year combines compulsory modules in screenwriting, documentary filmmaking, and world cinema with a wide range of optional choices that allow students to tailor their learning to their interests. These include cinematography, sound and music, Hollywood studios, costume and fashion, psychology of the arts, podcasting, social media, video gaming, and genre studies. This balance of theory and practice encourages both critical understanding and creative experimentation. In the final year, students engage with compulsory study of film, politics, and identity while selecting from advanced options such as adaptation, film criticism, marketing and distribution, microbudget filmmaking, location scouting, factual entertainment, or exploring media, gender, and sexuality. Opportunities also include arts internships, directing for theatre, and examining fandom and celebrity culture. Through its blend of practical filmmaking, creative development, and critical exploration, the program prepares students for diverse roles in the film and media industries, as well as related creative fields.
