COURSE CURRICULUM

The English Language, Linguistics and World Literature degree at Kent offers a comprehensive exploration of language, literature, and culture across three years. In the first year, students study foundational topics including language structure, societal use of language, literature analysis, and storytelling across historical periods, developing both critical thinking and practical communication skills. The second year builds on this with modules such as comparative and world literature, a language data toolkit, and an independent project, while offering optional courses in areas like language acquisition, gender studies, publishing, and language teaching. These experiences help students develop analytical, research, and professional skills applicable to a wide range of careers. In the final year, students complete a major project to consolidate their learning and gain hands-on research experience. Optional modules allow further specialisation in topics such as clinical and behavioural linguistics, intercultural communication, multilingualism, neurodiversity in literature, literary adaptation, travel and migration, and creative writing. Throughout the degree, students acquire a multidisciplinary skill set, combining theoretical understanding with practical abilities, preparing them for careers in education, research, publishing, media, and other fields where language, literature, and cultural insight are essential.
