COURSE CURRICULUM

The Theatre, Drama and Performance program at Kent provides students with a comprehensive education in performance, combining practical training with theoretical study to prepare them for careers in the performing arts. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through compulsory modules such as Making Performance, Staging Texts, Popular Performance and Citizenship, Performance Skills, Puppet and Object Theatre, and Making Performance 3: The Festival, allowing them to explore different performance styles and techniques. The second year builds on these skills with modules in creative careers, theatre and adaptation, and performance design and technologies, alongside optional modules covering acting, musical theatre dance, alternative cabaret, costume and fashion, disability and the arts, and writing for performance. In the final year, students focus on advanced practice through a creative project and dissertation, with optional modules in physical theatre, directing, stand-up comedy, psychology of the arts, arts internships, acting Shakespeare, and community and participatory performance. The program emphasizes both individual creativity and collaborative work, encouraging students to experiment, innovate, and develop their own artistic voice. Through practical experience, industry engagement, and exposure to diverse performance disciplines, graduates leave with the skills, confidence, and professional knowledge to pursue careers in acting, directing, production, performance design, and other roles within the performing arts and creative industries.
