COURSE CURRICULUM

The Drama and Film program at Kent offers a broad and immersive education in the performing and visual arts, combining practical experience with theoretical study to prepare students for careers in the creative industries. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through compulsory modules such as Making Performance, Film and Media Practice, Film Theory, Film Editing, and staging texts, allowing them to explore performance, production, and creative analysis. The second year builds on this foundation with modules in screenwriting, documentary filmmaking, and creative careers, alongside optional modules covering world cinema, acting, musical theatre dance, popular performance, theatre adaptation, costume and fashion, performance design, cinematography, sound, and genre filmmaking, giving students opportunities to specialise and develop industry-relevant skills. In the final year, students undertake a creative project and dissertation while exploring optional modules including film, politics and identity, physical theatre, directing, stand-up comedy, acting Shakespeare, film and TV adaptation, film criticism, microbudget filmmaking, screen space and location scouting, arts internships, and community performance. Throughout the program, students engage in both collaborative and independent work, honing practical, creative, and analytical skills while gaining exposure to industry practices. Graduates leave with the expertise, confidence, and professional experience needed to pursue careers in theatre, film, media production, and other creative sectors, equipped to innovate and contribute meaningfully to the arts.
