COURSE CURRICULUM

The Architecture degree at Kent is structured to develop creativity, technical knowledge, and professional skills through a balance of studio projects and classroom learning. In the first year, students are introduced to architectural principles with modules such as Studio 1A: Form and Space, Studio 1B: Habitation, and Studio 1C: Sustainable Building, alongside classroom studies including Form and Construction from Ancient Times to Modernity, the Science and Beauty of Light, and Survey and Interpretation of Medieval Architecture. This foundation combines design exploration with an understanding of architectural history and sustainable practice. In the second year, the focus expands to broader contexts with Studio 2A: Landscapes, Studio 2B: Communities, and Studio 2C: Adaptive Re-use, supported by classroom modules in Early Modern Studies, Modernity, and Climate and Sustainability. These allow students to explore how architecture responds to community needs, environmental challenges, and evolving urban contexts. The third year emphasizes professional readiness through Studio 3A: Urban and two Major Design Projects, while classroom studies include Research, Professional Practice, and Detailing. This combination of advanced design work and practical training ensures graduates are equipped with creative, technical, and professional expertise, preparing them for careers in architecture, urban planning, construction, and related fields.
