COURSE CURRICULUM

This course provides a comprehensive approach to sustainable building design and environmental systems, focusing on the optimization of energy performance and occupant comfort. The "Environmental and Passive Design Systems" module explores bioclimatic and passive strategies for energy conservation, considering local and regional climatic factors. It also delves into integrated building energy technologies, renewable energy sources, and low-carbon strategies essential for sustainable building design. Students gain practical knowledge in solar design, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and building simulation tools using specialized software. The "Building Simulation and BIM" module enhances students' understanding of digital technologies such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) and its application in the design and operation of high-performance buildings. The "Sustainable and Healthy Buildings" module connects sustainability and health, exploring how these factors impact the roles and practices of professionals in the built environment. The MSc Dissertation offers students an opportunity to carry out critical research in an area of interest, using appropriate methodologies and presenting findings effectively. Students also explore sustainability assessment tools in the "Sustainability Assessment Methods for the Built Environment" module, gaining knowledge to assess the sustainability and health performance of buildings and organizations. This module prepares students for professional certifications in sustainability frameworks like BREEAM and WELL, enhancing employability. Finally, the "Research Methods" module introduces students to a variety of research methodologies and data collection techniques, providing them with the skills necessary for their dissertation.
