COURSE CURRICULUM

This course offers a comprehensive exploration of sport, exercise, and psychological science, combining theoretical knowledge with applied skills relevant to professional practice and research. Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology (30 credits) equips students with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to work with athletes and teams, focusing on psychological consulting within multidisciplinary sports science environments. Social and Cognitive Processes in Performance (30 credits) explores key theories and research around how social and cognitive factors influence human performance across the lifespan, with an emphasis on skill acquisition and development. The Psychology of Physical Activity, Exercise and Wellbeing (30 credits) critically examines how psychological theory and research apply to health behaviours and wellbeing, enabling students to apply this understanding through supervised projects. The MSc Psychology Project (60 credits) allows students to conduct an empirical research study in a chosen area of psychology, deepening their expertise through planning, data collection, analysis, and reflection, while also developing professional-level communication and presentation skills. Core Research Methods and Analyses (30 credits) provides students with a solid grounding in research methodology, covering quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches. The module supports students in understanding and applying these methods ethically and effectively, preparing them for both their dissertation and future professional research roles. Together, the course modules foster advanced analytical, practical, and reflective skills, preparing graduates for careers in applied sport and exercise psychology, health promotion, or further academic research.
