COURSE CURRICULUM

This engineering master's program is structured to provide a comprehensive and applied learning experience through a balance of core theoretical knowledge, practical applications, and advanced research. At its heart is the 60-credit Individual Research Project, which requires students to independently explore a problem aligned with their program’s focus. This major component emphasizes independent thinking, literature analysis, complex problem-solving, and effective communication of findings in both written and oral formats. Supporting this is the Research, Planning and Communication module, which builds students' capabilities in evaluating research, identifying gaps, selecting methods, and communicating findings with a view to real-world societal, economic, and environmental impact. Academic English for Postgraduates (Engineering) ensures that international students gain the academic language skills necessary to succeed in a UK postgraduate environment, including referencing, paraphrasing, and academic writing. Technical and managerial expertise is developed through modules like Strategy & Management, which introduces strategic planning and operational oversight, and Computer Aided Manufacturing, which provides a broad understanding of modern manufacturing systems and their alignment with Smart Manufacturing and Industry 4.0. Additional technical depth is provided by modules such as Advanced Thermo-fluid Applications, Finite Element Applications, and Advanced Process Improvement Techniques, enabling students to analyze complex engineering systems and implement process improvements. Lean principles are emphasized through the Advanced Principles in Lean Manufacturing module, equipping students to drive efficiency and innovation. For further specialization, students select 15 credits from options such as Modern Materials, which explores cutting-edge material science and environmental impact, or Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing, which focuses on additive manufacturing, 3D printing, and their roles in accelerating product development. Overall, the program offers a robust foundation for students to progress into technical leadership roles or pursue further academic research, combining theory, practice, and innovation in the evolving landscape of engineering and manufacturing.
