COURSE CURRICULUM
This global health course is designed to develop students’ knowledge, skills, and practical experience across a wide range of key areas in public and global health. It includes several compulsory modules totaling 150 credits, and students must also choose 30 credits from a selection of optional modules. The course begins with Management, Leadership and Enterprise in Global Health, which explores how managers operate in different cultural, political, and organisational contexts, with a focus on change management, strategy, and innovation. Behaviour Change and Health Promotion introduces theories and strategies for promoting health at individual, community, and structural levels, enabling students to apply theory to practice. Contemporary Issues in Global Health examines current global health challenges, key stakeholders, governance, and policy responses at various levels. Health Needs Assessment focuses on identifying and addressing health inequalities and priorities through resource planning and real-world case studies. The module in Applied Epidemiology and Statistics teaches essential skills for analysing and interpreting public health data using epidemiological methods. Public Health, Policy and Politics explores how public health policies are developed, shaped by political structures, and implemented by various organisations. A major component of the course is the Dissertation, a 60-credit independent research project, where students conduct original research and strengthen skills in data evaluation, critical analysis, and professional presentation. For the optional component, students select one of two modules: Maternal and Child Health in the Global Context, which investigates the specific health challenges faced by mothers and children, especially in low- and middle-income countries; or Prevention and Control of Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases, which looks at disease patterns, causes, and control strategies within global health systems. Collectively, the course prepares students for leadership and practice in global health, focusing on evidence-based strategies, policy understanding, and effective health interventions.
