COURSE CURRICULUM
This MSc program offers a comprehensive, research-led curriculum designed to develop expertise in climate science, environmental sustainability, and natural resource management. At the core of the program is the 60-credit Independent Research Project, which enables students to explore a topic relevant to their field through lab, field, or desk-based research, culminating in a structured research paper. Core modules common across all option sets include Environmental Footprinting, which introduces practical methods to evaluate the sustainability of human activities through carbon, water, and land footprints; Fundamentals of Meteorology and Climate Change, which provides an understanding of climate systems, drivers of climate change, and mitigation strategies; and Adaptation to Environmental Change, which explores real-world strategies for climate resilience, especially in agricultural and water systems in both developing and industrialised contexts. Academic English for Postgraduates and Research Methods for Postgraduates support academic and research skill development, especially for international students. The program is structured into three option sets, allowing students to tailor their learning. In Option Set 1, students choose 15 credits from modules such as Risk Analysis for Agriculture and the Environment, Agricultural and Natural Resources Innovation for Development, Responsible Business and Natural Resources Management, and Introduction to GIS for Natural Resource Management, and an additional 30 credits from modules including Conservation Ecology, Climate Change and Food Security, and Soils and Environments. Option Set 2 offers a slightly different structure: students complete the same core modules and choose 15 credits through a flexible Postgraduate Negotiated Learning Module, along with 30 credits from the same ecological and development-focused electives. Option Set 3 combines elements of both by allowing students to choose 15 credits from a professional or technical list and an additional 15 credits from the ecological options, plus an elective or negotiated module. This flexible structure equips graduates with both scientific knowledge and practical skills for careers in environmental consultancy, policy, sustainability, or further academic research.
