COURSE CURRICULUM

This MSc Fintech and Finance course is structured to equip students with a robust understanding of financial theory, digital innovation, and practical application of machine learning and emerging financial technologies. Central to the course is the Machine Learning in Fintech module, which introduces key Python programming skills and the application of both supervised and unsupervised machine learning models such as regression, support vector machines, and neural networks in fintech scenarios like risk analysis and quantitative investing. This technical foundation is complemented by the Introduction to Cryptoassets and Fintech Exchanges modules, where students explore the mechanics, volatility, and regulatory environment of cryptoassets, including cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and Central Bank Digital Currencies. They critically assess crypto trading strategies, DeFi smart contracts, and the broader implications of blockchain on finance.The Principles of Finance module lays the groundwork for understanding financial management, corporate governance, and the valuation of securities. Alongside this, Fintech Banking develops awareness of how emerging technologies are reshaping traditional banking, including the regulatory challenges and innovation opportunities presented by fintech practices. Throughout the course, students strengthen their academic skills via modules like Academic English for Postgraduates (Business) and Foundations of Scholarship, which support the development of writing, statistical analysis, and academic communication. Research Methods further reinforces data analysis capabilities and prepares students for their final project.The Fintech Final Project acts as a capstone, encouraging students to tackle a real-world problem in fintech by analysing a product or service and proposing an innovative solution, with the option to collaborate with entrepreneurial support teams for commercial development. This combination of theoretical grounding, technical proficiency, regulatory insight, and entrepreneurial application ensures graduates are well-prepared to contribute to or lead in the fast-evolving financial technology sector.
