COURSE CURRICULUM

This MSc Finance and Investment course is designed to develop both foundational knowledge and advanced expertise in finance, investment, and data-driven financial analysis. At the heart of the program are key modules such as Financial Analysis and Valuation, Principles of Finance, and Investment Management. These provide students with deep insights into interpreting financial reports, understanding asset pricing models, and applying investment strategies across asset classes. Financial Markets and Products further builds this foundation by exploring the structure, regulation, and risk mechanisms of modern financial systems, with in-depth attention given to derivatives and structured products like Credit Default Swaps and CDOs. The inclusion of Financial Engineering and Machine Learning reflects the evolving nature of the industry, giving students critical exposure to algorithmic techniques, econometrics, and the mathematical tools increasingly used in high-frequency trading, risk modeling, and financial analytics. Supporting these core subjects is the Academic English for Postgraduates (Business) module, helping international students adjust to UK academic standards and strengthen their language skills for effective research and communication.The program places a strong emphasis on research, starting with Foundations of Scholarship and Research Methods. These modules ensure that students are well-equipped to design, justify, and execute academic and professional research. The Research Project, which draws on these preparatory modules, challenges students to analyse significant financial questions using empirical methods, integrating literature, data analysis, and critical thinking in a comprehensive final submission. Throughout the course, students also engage with practical tools such as SPSS and develop skills in academic writing, statistical analysis, and data interpretation. Altogether, this course offers a rich blend of theory and practical application, preparing graduates for careers in asset management, investment analysis, corporate finance, or further doctoral-level study, while ensuring they can adapt to the complex and evolving demands of the global financial sector.
