COURSE CURRICULUM

In this course, students are required to study a combination of core and optional modules. The MSc project, worth 60 credits, allows students to carry out an individual piece of supervised work relevant to their academic discipline. It provides an opportunity to apply knowledge to real-world problems and emphasizes independent problem-solving, project management, and the ability to present findings in a well-structured report. Students also study Big Data (15 credits), focusing on analytical skills needed to manage and manipulate large datasets using tools and techniques such as statistical and machine learning. The Data Visualisation module (15 credits) prepares students to work with data representation technologies, enabling them to identify trends and patterns through visual analytics. The Machine Learning module (15 credits) provides an in-depth introduction to modern AI systems, including techniques like image recognition and reinforcement learning, helping students develop the necessary skills for careers in machine learning or further study. Programming Fundamentals for Data Science (15 credits) gives practical experience with programming and applied mathematics, covering essential data structures and algorithms. The Ethics in Data Science module (15 credits) introduces students to ethical issues in the field, focusing on risk identification, mitigation, data governance, and legal considerations. Students also study Statistical Methods for Time Series Analysis (15 credits), learning statistical techniques and machine learning methods for analyzing time series data. In addition, students must select 15 credits from optional modules, including Clouds, Grids and Virtualisation (15 credits), Blockchain for FinTech Applications (15 credits), Technologies for Anti-Money Laundering and Financial Crime (15 credits), and Graph and Modern Databases (15 credits). These courses provide students with comprehensive skills in data science, machine learning, FinTech, and high-performance computing, preparing them for careers in these dynamic fields.
