COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Cyber Security equips students with the critical knowledge and hands-on experience required to pursue careers in IT security, digital forensics, and network management, while also preparing them for research or doctoral-level studies. Central to the course is the 60-credit MSc Project, which requires students to conduct an independent investigation, applying their technical and analytical skills to solve a complex problem or develop a system or tool. This project reflects the program’s emphasis on self-directed learning, project management, and professional communication. Core modules provide a robust foundation in key areas of cyber security, including Cyber Security, Audit and Security, and System Administration and Security, which cover principles, standards, and practices essential to safeguarding IT infrastructure. The Cyber Crime and Digital Forensics module allows students to gain experience in forensic tools and methodologies used in real-world investigations, while Managing IT Security and Risk provides in-depth knowledge of international compliance frameworks and risk management strategies. The curriculum also includes Network and Internet Technology and Design, offering insights into protocols and network architectures that underpin secure systems. To support academic success and professional growth, the course includes Essential Professional and Academic Skills for Masters Students. Students can tailor their learning by selecting optional modules in areas such as Mobile Application Development, Software Tools and Techniques, or Advanced Database Technologies, enabling them to strengthen skills aligned with specific career paths. Additional options such as Penetration Testing, Wireless and Mobile Technologies, and Network Architectures and Services allow for deeper exploration of security testing, emerging mobile infrastructures, and advanced network services.
