COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Child and Adolescent Psychology offers students a comprehensive understanding of psychological development from early childhood through adolescence, integrating theory, research, and real-world application. A key feature of the course is the focus on practical experience, highlighted by the Child and Adolescent Psychology in Practice module, where students apply psychological principles within a placement setting and develop a critical awareness of how psychology addresses real-life challenges. The MSc Psychology Project (60 credits) is central to the program, allowing students to independently design and carry out empirical research in an area of personal interest, while enhancing their ability to critically review existing literature and present findings in a professional format. Core Research Methods and Analyses further supports this work, equipping students with robust knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies essential for conducting ethical, reliable studies. Academic depth is provided through modules like Current Issues in Child and Adolescent Psychology, which covers contemporary research and controversies across a range of developmental areas, encouraging students to evaluate the relevance of theoretical work in practical contexts. Modules such as Development of Delinquency and Psychopathy and Developmental Disorders of Language, Learning and Cognition introduce students to specialised areas within the field, examining the influence of psychological, biological, and environmental factors on developmental outcomes. These modules provide the foundation for careers in areas such as forensic and educational psychology, youth services, and child mental health.
