COURSE CURRICULUM

This course in Chemical Engineering offers students a comprehensive understanding of advanced topics in the field, including cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices. The compulsory modules provide a solid foundation in key areas, such as Advanced Processing Methods and Optimisation, where students learn about AI technologies, robotic process automation (RPA), and simulation approaches like CFD and DEM in the chemical process industries (CPI). In the Biochemical Engineering module, students explore the production and processing of biological materials for sustainable food, chemicals, and bioenergy.The Mixing and Multiphase Flow module focuses on the behavior of fluids in chemical plants, while the Advanced Separation Processes module covers essential separation techniques used in industries like pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, and food processing. The Individual Research Project, a 60-credit module, allows students to demonstrate independent thinking and apply the methodologies and techniques learned during the course. The Research, Planning, and Communication module trains students to evaluate research and effectively communicate findings.The Advanced Product and Process Design module focuses on integrating manufacturing, management, materials, and processes, with an emphasis on product development in industries such as food, pharma, and biotech.Students also have the option to choose 30 credits from a range of electives. These include modules like Trends in Formulation Engineering, which explores the manufacture of products with micro-scale structures, and Food Engineering, which examines traditional and emerging technologies in food processing. Other electives include Nanotechnology for Chemical Engineers, Desalination and Water Reuse, and Water and Wastewater Engineering, providing students with a broad skill set applicable in diverse sectors.This program prepares students for careers in the chemical, pharmaceutical, food, water, and energy industries, equipping them with the skills necessary to address global challenges.
