COURSE CURRICULUM

This two-year Master's program in Landscape Architecture offers a rich, multidisciplinary curriculum that progressively builds students' skills in design, theory, research, and professional practice. In the first year, students engage with foundational modules such as Landscape Design 1 and 2, which focus on developing core competencies in drawing, modelling, and ecological analysis while encouraging critical engagement with urban landscapes. These are complemented by Contemporary Theories of Landscape, a 15-credit module that introduces a wide range of social, cultural, ecological, and political perspectives, providing students with the theoretical grounding to navigate complex design contexts. Technical competencies are developed through Landscape Design Technology 3, where students explore infrastructure and material systems, and Plant Technologies, which deepens understanding of plant-based design approaches in various landscape settings.In the second year, the curriculum shifts toward advanced and independent research-led design practice. Design Research Methodologies introduces students to diverse disciplinary methods and supports the development of a personal, situated design approach. Landscape Representation builds on this by refining technical and digital skills, encouraging experimental forms of communication that support the development and presentation of the Advanced Landscape Design project. The Professional and Technical Practice module prepares students for the realities of professional life, covering construction, regulation, and material innovation in landscape architecture. Landscape and Urbanism Theory deepens students’ theoretical understanding by examining the relationship between urban planning, ecological systems, and social dynamics. The program culminates in the 60-credit Masters Project, an ambitious and independent design research undertaking that synthesises the knowledge, skills, and methodologies developed across the two years. Through drawings, models, text, and various media, students articulate a robust and critically informed design proposition. This course structure ensures graduates are equipped with the creative, technical, and theoretical tools to innovate and lead in contemporary landscape architecture practice.
